Atheists, Humanists, & Agnostics discussion group @ Shoreline UU Church
Details
Sunday, March 1 from 11:45 -12:45, our church's Atheists, Humanists, and Agnostics (AHA) group invites you to gather to discuss how folks that don't believe God has a plan for each of us and will rectify injustices in the afterlife can find comfort and meaning in life.
Oliver Moffat will lead a discussion about collectivism versus individualism in popular fiction.
If you have been watching Pluribus, are you on team-Carol or a hive-mind fan? Do you sympathize with her scream when you encounter ‘group think’ or the hype and nonsense around the coming ‘singularity’?
American popular fiction romanticizes individualism (cowboys) while vilifying collectives (zombies). But the hit TV show Pluribus has provoked debate on social media by asking: “Maybe being assimilated isn’t so bad after all”?
Many societies are built around collective values. How has individualist propaganda shaped our narcissism? How can we build a kinder society in an age of hateful media?
