Hike to Drums Along the Hudson® 🌲 Inwood Hill Park

Details
Let's hike the trails of Inwood Hill Park, approx. 4 miles, en route to the 23rd Annual Drums Along the Hudson® Native American Festival and Multicultural Celebration.
Meeting Time/Place: Sunday, June 1, 9:30 a.m., A train/Dyckman Street.
Anne Loftus Playground south of the triangle at Dyckman and Broadway. Walk through the gates and find us near the restrooms. The No. 1 (Dyckman Street stop) is three blocks east of our meeting place.
Course: After reflecting that Broadway was originally the Native American Wickquasgeck Trail, we'll head into Inwood Hill Park, where we’ll spend our time hiking many of its trails. This very scenic hike will also cover some sparsely used older trails. We'll explore Indian Caves, Whale Back Rock, Overlook Meadow, Glacial Potholes, and more. Terrain ranges from paved walks to unpaved forest trails, with hills (some steep), and steps. Hiking poles could be helpful but are optional. Pace is moderate.
Back on the flats, we'll visit historic Shorakkopoch Rock, take a closer look at Muscota Marsh, and the Inwood Nature Center.
The walk will end as the Drums Along the Hudson® festival gets underway at 218th Street and Indian Road from 11-6, rain or shine, where you can enjoy:
- World dance and drumming traditions
- Pine tree planting ceremony
- Native American crafts (vendors)
- International cuisines
- Children’s activities
- Environmental appreciation/education tent
Restrooms: Please use the restrooms in Anne Loftus Playground before we start the hike. Other restrooms at the Inwood Tennis Courts and Inwood Nature Center.
Bring: Water, hat, sunblock, snacks. No break, but the hike ends as lunchtime approaches. BYO lunch, or purchase international foods at Drums Along the Hudson®, or, have brunch across the street at Inwood Farm.
Return: A train Inwood-207th Street station; entrance at Broadway/Isham. Or, the No. 1 on Tenth Ave at 215th Street and 207th Street.
[In the event of rain, Drums Along the Hudson® goes on as scheduled, but perhaps without us; we'll decide.]
