Governors Island Tribute to Dr. James Williams (and the Jazz Age Lawn Party)

Details

This a repeat of a walk given by Dr. Jim Williams, it is a tribute to his wonderful spirit and the inspiration that he provided for all Shorewalkers. Attendees can stay and enjoy the Jazz Age Lawn Party 2025 taking place that weekend on the Island.

Take the 10:30 am Governors Island Ferry from the Battery Maritime Building (10 South Street). You can book the Ferry online or at the BMB (check the Governors Island website for complete information). We will gather/meet at the Governors Island Welcome Center, see the map on the event page for location. While the Ferry is free (no charge) before 11:00 am on the weekends, I prefer to book my ticket online in case the BMB staff asks to see it. I advise people to arrive by 10:10 am, as the Ferry will be crowded with flappers and hepcats...

The description below is the one provided by Jim for his event:

5-6 miles 3 hours
Open year round, we will walk around various trails on the island. We will gather near the Governors Island Visitor Center after departing from the 10:30 AM ferry. There are NO tickets needed on Saturday before noon. There are various views of the harbor, Statue of Liberty as well as rich history of the island to share and explore. We will end at 2:00 on the island. You can take the ferry back to Manhattan or stay and explore more.

While on this walk, we can reminisce about last month’s battles of the Great Saunter.

There will not be a lunch break during the walk -- you can eat lunch after. Bring water, snacks.
