Hike the Heights to the High Bridge - 6 miles

Details

Shorewalkers will participate in the annual Hike the Heights community event for the fifth year. Starting in Central Park, we walk along the Giraffe Path through four upper Manhattan parks: Morningside, St. Nicholas, Jackie Robinson, and Highbridge. We'll have lunch at the community celebration at the Sunken Playground in Highbridge Park and then walk across the 176-year-old High Bridge to the Bronx and back. The walk is 6 miles with some uneven terrain along the trail in Highbridge Park and a steep set of stairs as we exit.

START: You'll have a chance to visit the new Davis Center in Central Park, where we'll use the restrooms at the start of the walk. Meet outside the 2/3 subway stop at 110th Street (cross street Lenox/Malcolm X Blvd). The M2, M3, and M4 buses also stop here. The C train is two blocks west. (Our meeting spot has changed from previous years.)

LUNCH: We'll break for 45 minutes to enjoy the lively community celebration. The event offers a potluck, although it's best to bring snacks/lunch in case the lines are long. After lunch, we'll continue our walk across the High Bridge to the Bronx side and back.

END: We exit Highbridge Park at 172nd Street and walk to 168th Street for the 1/A/C trains.

BRING: Water, snacks, and lunch. Wear sunscreen and a hat.

GUESTS: All guests must sign our waiver and release via this link to participate.

Hike leader: Pam Cress, pactoday@gmail.com, 917-597-2664. I'll answer texts and calls until we start walking at 10:15 a.m
