Tour Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Facility

Details
This is a visit to the Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment facility for an educational tour on the topic of "New York City's Water Story". Priority is given to our hike leaders for this first-time visit, and I'll plan to offer the trip again. Total walking is about 5 miles.
We'll meet in Long Island City, Queens, walk over the Pulaski Bridge to the Newtown Creek Nature Walk in Greenpoint, Brooklyn and arrive at the Newtown Creek Visitor Center by 12:15 pm. Plan to have a snack or lunch, use the restrooms, and sign a liability waiver before our 1:00 p.m. tour. The tour ends at 3:00 p.m., when we'll walk back to LIC for an optional stop at a Sigrid-approved brewery.
MEET: We leave promptly at 11:30 a.m. Please arrive on time, as we are on a schedule for the tour. We meet in Long Island City across the street from the Court Square Diner and around the corner from Trader Joe's. Take the 7, E, or G trains to the Court Square stop.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Everyone must wear appropriate footwear (closed toe and back shoes).
- During the tour, attendees will be given DEP hard hats and reflective safety vests to walk around parts of the facility.
- A tour allows visitors access to view some components of the process and operations that occur at the facility (i.e., Main Control Room). It takes place both indoors and outdoors. Please Note: due to ongoing facility work, tours will not go to the top of the Digester Eggs at this time.
END: Walk back over the Pulaski Bridge (2 miles) or take the G train at Greenpoint Ave. We'll make an optional stop at one of the LIC breweries.
