A Capital Walk: July 4th in Colonial Perth Amboy

Details
We’ll meet at Perth Amboy train station for a 6 to 7-mile walk through one of New Jersey’s most historic towns. Once the colonial capital of East Jersey (1686–1776), Perth Amboy was home to the colonial assembly and royal governors. We’ll visit the Proprietary House (1764), the last remaining royal governor’s mansion in the original thirteen colonies—once occupied by William Franklin, son of Benjamin Franklin. Nearby are City Hall and Market Square, where New Jersey ratified the Bill of Rights in 1789. The route continues along the Raritan Bay waterfront and historic ferry slip, with views across the bay to Staten Island and the southeast tip of New York. A meaningful walk through early American history and coastal beauty.
