Take a Walk on the Wild Side! LSP to Port Liberte Loop (~13 miles)

Walk on the wild side of the Hudson, meandering through the Liberty State Park waterfront with gorgeous views of NYC, Ellis Island & the Statue of Liberty, visit the Central Railroad Terminal Museum and the Nature Interpretive Center, then onward to visit the beautiful Caven Point Preserve (which is ONLY open Oct 1 - Feb 28 each year), returning back via downtown Jersey City to explore its vibrant street art and robust cafe scene.

Take the Great Saunter Fall Challenge! Register here to walk 32 miles in 16 days starting October 4. Registration is only $10, and we will donate all fees to the Carl Schurz Park Conservancy, the dedicated caretakers of the park’s beautiful gardens and lawns. This walk counts for 13 miles of your total. You do not have to be participating in the Challenge to join the walk - all members are welcome.

IMPORTANT NOTES - PLEASE READ SO YOU ARE PREPARED:

• We will assemble at the Paulus Hook Ferry Terminal in Jersey City (see details in Location link) where there are nice restrooms. You can arrive via NYWaterways ferry & here is a link to schedules OR you can take the Path train to Exchange Place, a 5 minute walk south along the waterfront to our starting point.
• We will begin walk PROMPTLY at 10:45a so plan your travel to start point accordingly.
• Route is flat with a combination of city streets, boardwalk and some dirt paths.
• Pace will be moderate (3 mph) and there are limited drop off points (~miles 3 & 10): via the Liberty Landing Ferry within the park, which would return you to Brookfield Place OR the Light Rail at either Jersey Avenue or Liberty State Park, which would return you to our starting point. Of course, you can always call an Uber as an alternate!
• Bring lunch, snacks, water & insert repellent.
• We will break for lunch at the picnic grounds south end of the park ~mile 6, noting there is no place to buy food or water in the park, so please bring your own.
• Rest rooms are limited to those at start of the walk & within the park
• Return back will be from the Grove Street Path station with routing to both World Trade Center AND 33rd Street.
• On day of walk, I will ONLY be accessible via TEXT at 917-847-9014. DO NOT CALL as my phone bounces unknown numbers. Also, please say who you are when texting.
