What’s [arguably] better than walking the Great Saunter 32-miles in one day? How about splitting it into four days, 8 miles/day? Join us for the Reverse Quarter-Saunter Countdown, in which we will walk the iconic Great Saunter route in reverse, i.e., counter-clockwise, over four days: October 6, 10, 13, and 17.

FOUR/October 6: We’ll walk from Fraunces Tavern up the East River to Carl Schurz Park/84th Street; 8 miles at a moderate pace. This is the fourth quarter of the [May] Great Saunter route.

Meeting Place/Time: Meet Monday, October 6, 9:30 a.m., in front of Fraunces Tavern, 54 Pearl Street. Closest subways are the No. 1 (South Ferry) and N/R/W (Whitehall Street/South Ferry. Consider using the restroom at the Staten Island Ferry Terminal before we begin.

Our first restroom break will be at South Street Seaport, about 1 mile into the walk. No lunch but we’ll have a brief snack stop at about 5 miles. We’ll finish in Carl Schurz Park at 84th Street.

Bring: Water, snacks, hat, sunglasses and sunscreen. We will walk rain or shine.

Return: Second Avenue Subway at 86th Street (Q); or 4/5/6 on Lexington, and also the ferry at East 90th Street. Drop-out points along the way.
