Details
Over three consecutive days, Tuesday through Thursday, we'll walk the iconic 32-mile Great Saunter path in REVERSE, i.e., counterclockwise, circumnavigating Manhattan Island up the East side and down the West side.
This is Stretch #2 of the series, about 11 miles, give or take, about 5 hours, at a moderate pace. The next and last walk, Stretch #1, will take place on Thursday.
On Wednesday, we begin at 125th Street and Park Avenue and walk the northern tip of Manhattan. Come join us for all or part of the walk; there will be drop-out points along most of the way.
We meet inside the Harlem-125 Street Metro-North train station (125th Street & Park Avenue) at 10:00 a.m. and leave promptly at 10:15- a.m. We'll walk up the Harlem River to Inwood Hill Park. We'll break for lunch in Inwood Park. Restrooms are available at the break.
We'll continue south to the Little Red Lighthouse, then through Fort Washington Park to Riverbank State Park.
Walk ends at 145th Street and the Hudson River. We will walk up to Broadway & 145th Street for the #1 train.
Bring: water, sunscreen, hat, snacks, and lunch.
Leaders: Laura, 917-658-6779; Brigitte, 646-651-3911, on day of walk only.
Take the Great Saunter Fall Challenge. Register here to walk 32 miles in 16 days starting October 4. Registration is only $10, and Shorewalkers will donate all fees to the Carl Schurz Park Conservancy, the dedicated caretakers of the park’s beautiful gardens and lawns. This walk will count for 11 miles of your total. You do not have to participate in the Fall Challenge to join the walk—all members are welcome.
