Riverside walk from 96st to Boardwalk Blues concert on Pier 97 (57st)

This will be a short 2 1/2 mile walk from the Broadway/96th Street to Pier 97 (57th st). Once at Pier 97 there will be a free Blues Concert sponsored by the Jazz Foundation of America. The concert begins at 6:30pm and lasts about 1 1/2 hours. Bring a blanket or mat to sit on the grass, or sit on the benches on the pier. The temperature is expected to be in the 70's but it may be cooler on the pier so you may want to bring a sweatshirt, sweater or light jacket. You may. also want to bring food and drink since there is no food on the pier. Unfortunately the bathrooms on the Pier are still under construction. The nearest bathroom is at Pier I, 1/2 mile north of Pier 97, where we will make a stop on the way to the concert.
The plan is to meet outside the 1,2,3 subway station at Broadway/96th street, walk along Riverside Drive to 79th street, where we will enter Riverside Park and proceed toward the waterfront at 73rd street, stopping at the Pier I bathrooms at 70th street, then on to Pier 97 at 57th street.
TIME: 5:00 pm for checkin, 5:15pm for departure.
MEET: pedestrian plaza on the south side of Broadway/96th street. Subways: 1,2,3, or C at CPW/96th street.
DISTANCE: 2 1/2 miles
TERRAIN: flat
BATHROOMS:
2-mile mark at Pier I (70th street).
PACE: Comfortable, steady walking pace.
END LOCATION: Pier 97. Nearest subway is Columbus Circle (1, A, B, C, D)
BRING: Water, food. There is no food sold at Pier 97.
WEATHER POLICY: In case of iffy weather, hike leader will post a comment on this page by 8am the day of the hike to confirm status. Dress for the weather.
LATE ARRIVALS: Walk starts promptly at 5:15pm. If you arrive late, my plan is to walk south along Riverside Drive to 79th street, then go to the waterfront towards Pier 97 at 57th street.
