Post–Highbridge Water Tower: Grand Stairway & Harlem River(Bronx Side Adventure)

Details
Distance: 2 miles
Meet: the Bronx end of the High Bridge
End: Roberto Clemente State Park / Metro-North Morris Heights station
After the Highbridge Water Tower tour, we’ll start our walk on the Bronx side around 2:00–3:00 PM (depending on when the tower visit ends).
(I’ll do Pam & gina’s walk up to the Highbridge Water Tower, but after that I’ll head into the Bronx while Pam’s group heads back to Manhattan.)
From the Bronx end of the High Bridge, we’ll head down the Grand Stairway and follow a short 1.7-mile route along the Harlem River, going under three bridges — the High Bridge, Alexander Hamilton Bridge (I-95), and Washington Bridge — and through Bridge Park.
Along the way, we’ll check out the unique “Corkscrew” interchange, I’ll point out where the New Croton Aqueduct runs under the Harlem River (still part of NYC’s water supply), check out the historic gatehouse ruins on the Manhattan bluff, and note that the Pump Station on Amsterdam Avenue (right next to Quisqueya Playground in Highbridge Park) is still in operation.
We’ll continue past River Park Towers and finish at Roberto Clemente State Park, right by the Metro-North Morris Heights Station (the only transit option at the end).
Note: We’ll meet around 2:00–3:00 PM, but the exact time can’t be confirmed yet. As we get closer to the end of the tower visit, I’ll post the precise meeting time in the comments once I know when the High Bridge Water Tower tour ends.
