Tip to Top Broadway (Manhattan) Stroll

Details

Back by popular demand, this is a repeat of last year's finale of my "longest streets" series of walks. We will meet Sunday, September 14, at the far south end of Manhattan outside of the Staten Island ferry terminal and complete our stroll at the Van Cortlandt Park-242nd Street IRT (1 Line) Station in Riverdale, Da Bronx. Total distance should be around 13 miles. Depending on our energy level at that point, we may add a bonus Broadway leg up to the Yonkers city line (approximately 3 more miles).

Plan on stops along the way, and some detours for food stops, parks (Fort Tryon Park for sure), and other points of interest. As those who've been on my walks before know, I welcome suggestions for small detours to or descriptions of points of interest, particularly from those who are familiar with the neighborhoods where we'll be passing. Since Broadway can get very crowded in spots, we may walk on parallel streets at certain points to keep at a reasonable pace (this is not a speed walk however!)

I suspect that most of you are familiar with this walk, so I will skip a detailed description.

I am also open to suggestions as to a nice place to have a drink and bite at the end of our walk (hint: there's some great watering holes and restaurants in Inwood).

One request: Please note that I am limiting the size of the group to 20. Out of fairness to those who might want to join the walk, I ask that you do not 'double book' for other walks that day. (I can always lead another Broadway walk in the future.)

As usual, bad weather postpones, in which case, I will let you know the evening before.
