North Sea 20 Km Coastal Hike

## Event Details

• Date: July 12, 2025. Saturday.
• Time: Meet at 10:15 AM, hike starts at 10:30 AM. Try to be on time to avoid high tide on the walk.
• Meeting Point: Parking lot Parkeerplaats Strand, Kanaalweg, Retranchement, Netherlands (it may be paying, there are also other parkings nearby)
• Total Distance: ~19 - 20 km (loop)
• Duration: ~5-6 hours (including swim break)
• Difficulty: Moderate (flat terrain, long distance, mixed beach and paths)
• What to Expect: Coastal and indland hiking along the Dutch North Sea coast, possible swim at Nieuwvliet-Bad beach, optional farewell beer/dinner in Cadzand-Bad.

Join us for a scenic 20 km loop hike along the wild North Sea coast near Cadzand-Bad! We’ll explore beautiful beaches like Cadzand-Bad Beach, and the Verdronken Zwarte Polder, enjoy a swim at Nieuwvliet-Bad beach, and end with an optional farewell beer/dinner in Cadzand-Bad.

• Hike: Start at Leeuwerikenlaan parking lot and trek ~19 - 20 km inland and along the coast, visiting spots like Cadzand-Bad Beach and Nieuwvliet-Bad Beach. Exact route TBD, using mostly coastal paths. Check tides (tideschart.com).
• Swim: We’ll possibly swim at Nieuwvliet-Bad beach (30-60 min break).
• Optional Beer/Dinner: End with beer at Strandpaviljoen De Piraat, PURE C or a a sunset dinner at the Beach Pavillon De Zeemeeuw in Cadzand-Bad.

Car-pools

If you have a car please offer car-pool in the comments here below or in the WhatsApp group. People who are willing to offer car-pool, if on waiting list, will also be immediately put on the going list.
If you don't have a car you may ask for carpool in the comments here below, or in the WhatsApp group.

What to Bring

• Swimsuit, towel
• Walking shoes/sandals, sunscreen
• Hat, sunglasses, light jacket
• 1.5L of water
• Your lunch
• If possible a phone spare battery pack

Weather

The weather will be sunny. Temperatures will be in the range 21° - 26°C. Dress accordingly.

Tides

Low-tide at 10:25, high-tide at 16:24.

WhatsApp "share live location"

When participating in our hikes, you should understand how to use the WhatsApp function "share live location". If you don't know what I am talking about, google for it and practice at home.
WhatsApp "share live location" is very handy in case you remain behind, arrive late or get lost.

MeetUp privacy settings

Turn off the privacy settings in MeetUp, for not preventing the organizers from contacting you by direct message.

A reminder on the event etiquette (and on good manners in general)

Register only if you are reasonably motivated to participate. As a matter of courtesy towards the people on the waiting list, if you are unable to come, cancel as soon as possible.
If you don't cancel, but you don't show, you make the whole group wait for you unnecessarily, and may also prevent someone on the waiting list to join. This is considered very rude, and may be ground for blacklisting.

If you want to be added also to “Brussels (cultural) events” group which is a subgroup of Walking in Bruxelles, but more dedicated to social activities or to the unmoderate chat group "Hikers Chat Corner" please specify it exactly.
