Why this hike?
This section of the GR 126 (part of the long-distance "Chemin des Francs") follows the beautiful Meuse Valley. You'll get plenty of panoramic views over the river's meanders, wooded hills, historic ruins, and the iconic approach to Dinant. The Meuse River plays a starring role, with open viewpoints, rest spots, and dramatic descents.
Key highlights & best Meuse viewpoints
- We will start near Godinne station → quick climb into the forests with first glimpses of the valley.
- Then pass near the ruins of Poilvache Castle (great elevated viewpoint over the Meuse and the valley – one of the best spots!).
- Sections through woods and fields with sweeping views of the river bends.
- Descent toward Évrehailles / Awagne, then along paths with more river panoramas.
- Finish in Dinant with the famous Citadel overlooking the Meuse, the Collegiate Church, the saxophone bridge, and the picturesque riverside town.
To maximize views
- We may add near the end, a detour toward a viewpoint, the famous "Les 7 Meuses" area (stunning 7-bend panorama of the river).
- Post-arrival in Dinant: optional out-and-back along the Meuse promenade for extra km, sunset views and beer galore!
What to Bring
- Food and water: Bring and at least 1.0 L of water and your lunch. We will have a pic-nic on the way.
- Various and possible: Come with good walking shoes. Have your GSM battery fully charged, better if you have an extra fully charged battery pack with you.
- Weather
The weather will be mostly sunny. Rain is not expexcted. Temperatures will be in the range 6° - 9°C. Dress accordingly.

When participating in our hikes, you should understand how to use the WhatsApp function "share live location". If you don't know what I am talking about google for it and practice at home.
WhatsApp "share live location" is very handy in case you remain behind, arrive late or get lost.
MeetUp privacy settings
Turn off the privacy settings in MeetUp, for not preventing the organizers from contacting you by direct message.
A reminder on the event etiquette (and on good manners in general)
Register only if you are reasonably motivated to participate. As a matter of courtesy towards the people on the waiting list, if you are unable to come, cancel as soon as possible.
If you don't cancel, but you don't show, you make the whole group wait for you unnecessarily, and may also prevent someone on the waiting list to join. This is considered very rude, and may be ground for blacklisting.
