Summer Night Walk: Groenendaal to Place Wiener 🌲🌙🍺
Join us for a summer evening walk through the Sonian Forest, starting at Groenendaal railway station and finishing at Place Wiener in Watermael-Boitsfort.
We will walk through the quieter eastern side of the forest, remaining on the Groenendaal–Boitsfort side of the Chaussée de La Hulpe and following mainly broad forest paths and drèves.
Date: Wednesday, 29 July 2026
Meeting point: Outside Groenendaal railway station, near the car park
Meeting time: 19:25
Departure: 19:30 sharp
Finish: Place Wiener, approximately 22:30–22:45
Distance: Approximately 10 to 12 km
Walking time: Around 3 hours
Pace: Moderate and convivial — not a race, but we will keep moving
Terrain: Forest paths and broad drèves, with some uneven or muddy sections
We will begin in daylight, enjoy the sunset among the trees and complete the final part of the walk after dark.
During the walk, we will make a short picnic stop, so please bring something to eat.
After the walk, we will stop for a well-deserved beer at a bar near Place Wiener. Joining us for the drink is of course optional, but very welcome!

### Trains from Brussels

Recommended train:

  • Bruxelles-Central: 18:52
  • Bruxelles-Luxembourg: 19:09
  • Groenendaal: 19:22

Please check the SNCB app on the day for the platform and any last-minute timetable changes.

### What to bring

A headlamp or good torch is essential, as the final section will be walked in darkness. Please also bring comfortable walking shoes, a snack or something light to eat during a short break, and at least 1 litre of water.. A light rain jacket may also be useful, depending on the weather. A fully charged phone is recommended.
The walk ends at Place Wiener, with public transport connections back towards central Brussels.
Dogs are welcome if they are comfortable walking approximately 12 km at a steady pace and can be kept under control in the forest.
This is a friendly and informal walk. Come for the forest, the evening light, the conversation, the slightly adventurous experience of crossing the Sonian Forest as night falls — and a beer together at the end!
