SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM RABBI RUBANOWITZ & REBBETZIN DINA
How phenomenal is it that the President of the United States — leader of the most powerful nation in the world and home to the largest Jewish community outside of Israel — is publicly encouraging Jews everywhere to keep Shabbat in honor of America’s 250th year. How can such a thing be explained?
Something fascinating occurred to me. The number 250 is the numerical value (gematria) of the Hebrew word “Ner” — light.
Our tradition teaches us that the Jewish people are charged with being an “Or LaGoyim” — a light unto the nations. Even in a world with so much darkness and confusion, our light has reached the seat of the government of the United States. And now we are experiencing that very light being reflected back toward us — encouraging Jews to strengthen Shabbat, Torah, and Jewish identity.
Let us answer that call — by joining together for an extraordinary and meaningful Shabbat.
May this light continue to become the light of redemption for all.
Shabbat Shalom,
Rabbi Shalom and Dina Rubanowitzwww.shulonthebeach.com
