What we’re about
What We're About
Shut Up & Write! is a global community that empowers writers to overcome procrastination, silence their inner critic, and make consistent progress on their projects. Our events provide a structured and focused environment where writers can come together, set aside distractions, and achieve their writing goals.
What to Expect
Our events use our proven formula: a few minutes of introductions, a period of focused writing, and a final check-in to share our progress. Once you arrive, our host will lead introductions, and then everyone will write for a quiet, focused period of time. Afterward, we’ll have an optional time to chat and get to know each other. Our events are a safe space for writers to work on their craft. No one will read or critique your writing.

Shut Up & Write! Rotterdam IN PERSON
Join us on (biweekly) Thursdays for two hours of writing. It can be strikingly helpful to write with other writers. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done.
This Shut Up & Write is hosted in Rotterdam and has been running (outside Meetup) for about a year now, with both Dutch as international attendees from all over Europe and the world. Most attendees are creative writers, who are writing short stories, novels, poetry or memoir. However if you’re gasping for some focussed writing time on other stuff (a blog, an article etc.) feel free to join us.
Also we offer a space for writers of all skill levels to work on their craft. So whether you are a seasoned writer or a beginner who aspires to write and wants to explore the craft, you are most welcome.Being a writer we sometimes can lose track of time or we might manipulate time altogether in our stories. However for this Shut Up & Write we do follow a SCHEDULE (see below).
BEING LATE IS OKAY. Just take a seat at our table, start to write on your own project until the break when you can check in with us. Of course you can also leave early or check in during the break.
