What we’re about
What We're About
Shut Up & Write! is a global community that empowers writers to overcome procrastination, silence their inner critic, and make consistent progress on their projects. Our events provide a structured and focused environment where writers can come together, set aside distractions, and achieve their writing goals.
What to Expect
Our events use our proven formula: a few minutes of introductions, a period of focused writing, and a final check-in to share our progress. Once you arrive, our host will lead introductions, and then everyone will write for a quiet, focused period of time. Afterward, we’ll have an optional time to chat and get to know each other. Our events are a safe space for writers to work on their craft. No one will read or critique your writing.

WHAT TO EXPECT?
This Shut Up & Write is hosted in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, with both Dutch as international attendees. The spoken language is English. Most attendees are creative writers in all genres (short stories, novel, poetry, theatre, graphic novel, spoken word, memoir, etc.). However if you’re gasping for some focussed writing time on other stuff (blog, article, paper, newsletter, etc.) feel free to join us. Also, we offer a space for writers of all skill levels to work on their craft. So whether you are a seasoned writer or a beginner who aspires to write and wants to explore the craft, you are most welcome.Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done.
SOME IMPORTANT DETAILS:
- This is not a writing class! It just offers you space and time to sit down and work on your own writing while in the company of other writers.
- Keep in mind that Shut Up & Write events is about doing the writing, so we don’t share what we’ve written or critique each other.
- Shut Up & Write offers a safe space for both experienced as aspired writers. Please be respectful to your fellow attendee and don’t give unsolicited advice.
- We support and are supported by the non profit Shut Up & Write!® and follow their code of conduct.
- This event is usually organised every (other) Thursday morning. Follow this group or our Insta account for updates.
