Shut Up & Write! Piscataway/Edison
Join us for a 3-hour writing marathon on Sunday's at 10:00 AM! We’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write with other writers. Write with us and see if it’s true for you! Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. We will just shut up and write, with some socializing during the break. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done. SCHEDULE 10:00 AM - 10:15 AM: quick intros. 10:15 AM - 11:15 AM - timer starts: write for 1 hour. 11-15 AM - 11:30 AM - 15 mins break - grab a quick bite / talk to your fellow writers / just take a break 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM - Write for another hour and half SEATING I will be seated with the MeetUp sign - most likely on your left as you enter Panera. If you don't find me there, just walk around and look for the MeetUp sign. There is plenty of seating at the venue. We will all sit in one area and most likely on one big table. GUIDELINES 1. Please thank our hosts by purchasing something. 2. Panera Bread has WiFi. I will share the login information at the venue 3. For now, please do get your laptops pre-charged - we are trying to find a workaround for this 4. Bring earbuds/earplugs if you want to block Panera's overhead music or the conversation by other patrons 5. BEING LATE IS OKAY: just show up and get settled, then check-in with me after the session. (I’ll be the person with the Shut Up & Write! sign.) If you were on time, please be willing to make room for the friendly latecomer. 6. LEAVING EARLY IS OKAY TOO: Just be willing to leave without disturbing other writers TRAVEL / PARKING Lot of parking available in front of Panera Happy writing and I look forward to seeing you at Panera on Sunday at 10:00 AM !

What we're about

Public Group

Shut Up & Write! helps writers tell their story. We offer free, weekly, nation-wide events that foster local writing communities. Our Meetups help members reach their writing goals in a supportive, social setting. Writing—whether it's approached professionally or as a hobby—doesn't have to be isolating. We welcome anyone who writes, regardless of genre or medium. We have members writing novels, short stories, poetry, screenplays, essays, school reports and more.

Meetup Format

Making the time to write one hour each week is an empowering and rewarding experience. It can serve as a powerful base for building your daily writing discipline.

If you RSVP that you are coming, then please arrive 10–15 minutes early. The organizer will lead introductions and then the group will write for an hour. Afterwards, there will be 15–30 minutes of social time to get to know each other. Members often talk about their successes and challenges as writers. There should be no critiquing, exercises, lectures, ego, competition or feeling guilty.

“Writing is the only thing that, when I do it, I don't feel I should be doing something else.“ - Gloria Steinem
