Shut Up & Write! in Garland/Rowlett/Sachse
Details
Shut Up & Write! is a global community that empowers writers to overcome procrastination, silence their inner critic, and make consistent progress on their projects. Our events provide a structured and focused environment where writers can come together, set aside distractions, and achieve their writing goals.
What to Expect:
Our events use our proven formula: a few minutes of introductions, a period of focused writing, and a final check-in to share our progress. Come early to join the organizer for lunch and/or stay afterwards to socialize with other attendees. This event is a safe space for writers for any type to work on their craft. You can be working on any writing. It doesn't need to be a novel; you could be simply journaling or writing a to-do list. No one will read or critique your writing.
Schedule:
1:00-2:00pm - Come early to join me for lunch or to simply chat
2:00-2:10pm - Introductions
2:10-4:00pm - Writing sprints with periodic stretch breaks
Accessibility Walkthrough:
* Parking: 3 reserved spaces with 2 access aisles and 2 wheelchair cutouts provide easy access to sidewalk. No uneven sideways noted during walkthrough.
* Entrance: Right entrance (from handicap parking) is two sets of non-automatic double doors. Medium resistance to pushing. Left door is a single, non-automatic door with medium resistance. Ordering kiosks are too high to be wheelchair accessible, so ordering at the counter is recommended.
* Aisleways & Seating: Almost all aisles are wide enough for a wheelchair or walker. Most tables have chairs that can be removed for wheelchair access. Normal table height. Highchairs are available at the napkin area.
* Food: Pickup window and soda machine are too high for wheelchair access, but staff said to just let them know table number and they will bring food/drink out. Napkin/straw area is wheelchair accessible. Trash is not wheelchair accessible, but staff said that plates can be left on the table for staff to pick up later.
* Bathroom: Both men's and women's restrooms are wheelchair accessible and have hand rails. Stall in women's restroom also has changing table. Sinks are at normal height.
* Sensory: Noise level is low-medium typical of restaurants. Low lighting by normal LED lightbulbs.
* More information: Staff is very responsive to questions and understanding. Please contact Val if you have any specific questions/concerns not addressed above. She is happy to help.
