It can be amazingly helpful to write with other writers. Accountability is an ally of productivity.

See if it’s true for you at 9:30pm on Wednesday evenings at THE ALLEY CAT...

...be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, poem, or just plain work stuff, you're invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done.

SCHEDULE
• 9:30pm - Everyone starts to arrive and get settled
• 9:45pm-ish – Quick intros
• 10:00pm – Timer starts and the writing hour begins
• 11pm – The end of the writing hour is announced

Optional socializing happens after 11pm, until the cafe closes at midnight.

From the perspective of a host and organizer, it is very helpful when people RSVP as early as possible so that adequate space can be arranged for all who want to participate. This is one of the difficulties we have with private business meeting locations that I hope to correct with this new addition to the post.

From the perspective of a group member seeking to attend and write, I understand how the details of life can interfere with the ability to accurately RSVP as early as a host might prefer. That being said, perfect is the enemy of progress; if you have even an idea that you might attend, just RSVP and cancel if it doesn't work out.

Being late is okay—just show up and get settled. If you were on time, please be willing to make room for the friendly latecomer.

Writing is very solitary, so connecting and commiserating with other writers can be a great thing.

VENUE INFORMATION

• Outlets are limited, so make sure your laptop or other device is fully charged before you arrive

• Bring earbuds/earplugs if you want to block out the overhead music or the conversation by other patrons

• WiFi is free and available within the building

• There is a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages available, and a menu of snacks, as well. Please thank our hosts by purchasing something (if you are able), and don't bring your own food or drink other than a water bottle

• The host will have a small sign for Shut Up and Write displayed until 11:00pm or so, so look for that to find us.
