What we’re about
Shut Up & Write! is a global community that empowers writers to overcome procrastination, silence their inner critic, and make consistent progress on their projects. Our events provide a structured and focused environment where writers can come together, set aside distractions, and achieve their writing goals.
What to Expect
Our events use our proven formula: a few minutes of introductions, a period of focused writing, and a final check-in to share our progress. Once you arrive, our host will lead introductions, and then everyone will write for a quiet, focused period of time. Afterward, we’ll have an optional time to chat and get to know each other. Our events are a safe space for writers to work on their craft. No one will read or critique your writing.

Join Leanna and other writers for 120 minutes of writing! We’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if it’s true for you at 2:30 pm on Saturday afternoons.
Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us.
No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done.
SCHEDULE:
2:30 - Quick introductions
2:40 - Timer starts: write for 120 minutes
4:25 - Check outs--How did it go?OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING happens at 4:30 pm. Writing is very solitary. Connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers is a cool thing.
BEING LATE IS OKAY: just pull up and start writing, then check-in with us after the session. If you were on time, please be willing to make room for friendly latecomers.
Happy writing and I look forward to seeing you at the Library!
What Should I Bring?
Whatever you need to be able to write! I recommend a fully charged laptop, if possible.
Bring earbuds/earplugs if you want to block the conversation by other patrons.Other Important Details: Brix+Mortar has WiFi. The network is: Harbour City Lofts Password: Airbnbguests
TRAVEL / PARKING: There is street parking or underground parking . *Please note: while construction is going on on Commercial Street, there's limited street parking along Commercial Street. You may also find public parking via Front Street by the theatre and library.
There's also a bus stop nearby at Victoria and Albert (outside of Bastion Pizza and across the street).SEATING INFORMATION: Brix+Mortar will be reserving the booth for our group. The booth can seat 6-8 people. The manager will get a reservation sign to place on the table for us. They just ask that if the group is small, that we move to the smaller tables to free the booth up for bigger groups.
They will also be setting up a nice patio, if anyone wants to write outside.
GUIDELINES: Please thank our hosts by respecting the other patrons and by following proper cafe etiquette and making a purchase.
***As summer tends to be more erratic in terms of attendance, I will do my best to notify people if no one is attending, but can make no guarantees I will be able to inform people if that's the case. I will be unavailable for July 5th and 12th. I work as pet sitter and summer tends to be my busiest time. I will continue to post my availibilty as I know it.***
