Online Event: Shut Up & Write!® on Google Meet with Deon Ashleigh

Shut Up & Write!® hosts free in-person and online writing events for writers all over the world. Our goal is to ensure every writer, regardless of genre or skill level, has access to the community, accountability, and resources they need to be successful in their personal writing goals.

Our events use our proven formula: a few minutes of introductions, a period of focused writing, and a final check-in to share our progress.

What to Expect

Before your event, please take a few minutes to make sure your video chat setup is working. Once you log in to the meeting, our host will lead introductions, and then everyone will write for a quiet, focused period.

Afterward, we’ll have an optional time to chat and get to know each other. Members often talk about their successes and challenges as writers. Our events are a safe space for writers to work on their craft. No one will read or critique your writing.

Lighting-fast rundown

• Intros start five minutes after the hour (gives people time to come in)
• Do a quick, out-loud introduction of what you're writing and a word that inspires you (if late, type this in the chat)
• Write for an hour
• I'll start the timer after introductions
• When the hour is finished, I'll announce that
• After the hour, we'll chat for ten minutes (optional)
• You can turn your camera on or off during the writing hour
• Please mute your microphone once we start
• Feel free to leave whenever you want
• Self-promotion: Leave a link at the end of the meeting. Visit other people's links if it's relevant
