What we're about

We’re looking for hosts to start more in-person events! Go to https://shutupwrite.com/organizers to sign up.

For online events, check out our Online Events Meetup at https://www.meetup.com/shutupandwriteonlineevents.

Shut Up & Write hosts free in-person and online writing events for writers all over the world. Our goal is to ensure that every writer, regardless of genre or skill level, has access to the community, accountability, and resources they need to be successful in their personal writing goals. Our events use our proven formula: a few minutes of introductions, an hour of focused writing, and a final check-in to share the hour's progress.

What to Expect

RSVP and please arrive 10–15 minutes early to get settled at an in-person event. Our host will lead introductions and then everyone will write for a quiet, focused period of time.

Afterward, feel free to get to know each other. Members often talk about their successes and challenges as writers. Our events are a safe space for writers to work on their craft. No one will read or critique your writing.

For more information, visit https://shutupwrite.com, or email us at questions@shutupwrite.com. To learn more about our events, check out our Getting Started Guide at https://shutupwrite.com/getting-started-guide.

Shut Up & Write with Roger (Morning Cappuccino Edition)

Hello everyone. Even as COVID is becoming less of a factor in our everyday life, we are still writing. Join us every day for putting words together and create worlds.

Details (Switching to zoom to control unimaginative zoombombers.)
All sessions are now on zoom. All guests are requested to have the camera on when they check-in.
All new guests will not be let in after we start (which is 10 minutes after the scheduled hour.)
Regulars known to me will be let in whenever.
I'm not happy to implement these restrictions. This is to protect the hard-won time and concentration of my guests.

"Routine, in an intelligent person, is a sign of ambition."
Start the day with a sense of accomplishment (and coffee) by writing. Enter into the bustle of life with a page or two written when your mind is clear and uncluttered. Join us for an hour of writing from the comfort of your own home (and coffee)
It's helpful to write with others, even if we’re all just hanging out online together. See if it’s true for you at 6am on Monday to Friday Morning.
Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done. And don’t worry, no one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice.
SCHEDULE:
5:00 - Quick introductions (and making coffee)

WHAT DO I NEED?
A computer with working camera and microphone, a good internet connection, and optionally, headphones.
OTHER IMPORTANT DETAILS:
Technical difficulties are part and parcel of getting together online.
If you’ve never used your computer for an online meeting, take a few minutes before we meet to familiarize yourself with how to use GOOGLE HANGOUTS by reviewing the below tutorial:

If you run into technical issues, remember that this is the time you’ve carved out for yourself and your writing. Whether or not you were able to join our online meet-up, go ahead and get your writing started, then leave a comment below to let us know how it went for you.

SU&W Drop-In Writer's Studio (unhosted) - 8pm to 4am Pacific Time USA Every Day

Link visible for attendees

Password: hem!ngway

This group is like going to the library. Drop-in anytime, stay as long as you like between 8pm Pacific Time to the next morning at 4am Pacific Time.

All times are Pacific Time in the United States. Use the time zone converter to figure out what time it is in your place:
https://www.thetimezoneconverter.com/

The group has been mostly insomniacs from the Eastern United States, people at the end of their days in Asia, and writers in the middle of the day in Europe.
The room is unmonitored. This is a big experiment.

You may be the only one in the Zoom Room or there may be 30 writers. It's like going to the library, but with accountability. You still write alone, but together.

If you experience anything weird, technical glitches, personal safety breaches, be sure to let me know through the comment section for the event.

The Zoom Room link will always be the same, so make a note of it, or keep RSVPing for each session.

Mute yourself, check into the chatbox with your intentions; write for 15 minutes or two hours, whatever fits your schedule. Then check out in chat when you leave.

Maybe you have time during lunch break, maybe you have an hour before it's time to get your kids from school. Maybe your most productive time of the day.

You'll likely run into writers you know. Since there is no talking, there's generally quite a bit of banter in the chat rooms.
