Join a group of friendly writers for an hour of writing in Cupertino EVERY FRIDAY at the Panera Bread on Stevens Creek! We’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if it’s true for you at 10:00AM on FRIDAY MORNINGS.

Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing DONE.

OUR SCHEDULE:

  • 10:00am - Grab a seat; quick introductions
  • 10:15am - Timer starts; write for 1 hour
  • 11:15am - Timer stops; stop writing and check in
  • 11:30am - Take off, or keep writing

OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING starts at 11:15am and continues for about 15-20 minutes (sometimes longer if folks want to stay for lunch). Writing is very solitary. Connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers is a cool thing.

BEING LATE IS OKAY: Just show up and get settled, then check-in with me after the session. (I’ll be the person with the Shut Up & Write! sign.) If you were on time, please be willing to make room for the friendly latecomer.

Happy writing, and I look forward to seeing you Fridays at the Panera Bread in Cupertino!

FAQs FOR CURIOUS WRITERLY TYPES:

1. WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
**Whatever you need to be able to write!**
Consider bringing earbuds/earplugs if you want to block the cafe’s overhead music or the conversations of other patrons.

NOTE: There are VERY FEW OUTLETS at this location. I try to grab seats by the outlets, but they're popular and go fast. I always bring an extension cord and a socket strip, but it's a good idea to come with your laptop or tablet CHARGED in case I can't reserve seats by the outlets.

2. WHAT ABOUT WIFI? I CAN'T LIVE/WRITE WITHOUT WIFI!
Panera Bread does have WiFi. You'll need to sign in to get connected.

3. WHERE DO I PARK/SIT?

  • Parking: Located behind the building.--I recommend parking by the Sizzling Lunch as their spots are a little bigger, and it's easier to get in and out.
  • Seating: You'll know it's me by the SUAW sign. We're usually a big group, and I generally hold tables either in the front near the coffee dispensers OR a few booths midway through the restaurant along the glass windows. This can change, though, depending on how busy Panera is. Don't be shy - come up and say hello if you get there early (and help me hold our tables!).

4. DO I NEED TO BUY FOOD/DRINKS?
I will not be checking! Keep in mind that we are using their space, so it'd be great if you'd thank our hosts by purchasing something (tea or coffee or a fountain beverage works fine!). Some of us hang around for lunch after our writing session, though it's not required and not everyone can stay every time.
