Shut Up & Write!® Thursdays in Traverse City

Details
Co-Working for Writers!
Writing can be a solitary occupation, but there is no reason to do it alone. If you focus on your writing better when you are around other people focusing on their writing, Shut Up & Write may be for you. These two hours include at least 90 minutes of silent, focused writing time -- and then, if you can spare it, some time to get to know your neighbors.
Do you write better with others?
Your host likes writing in the company of other people writing, so please join him no matter what you want to write. We're a small group of regulars (and semi-regulars) who have worked on novels, memoirs, poetry, business, computer code, and nature and history nonfiction. What we have in common is that we're all writers -- and we're all welcome.
We want to support good writing habits and accountability. Join us for an hour and a half of focused writing time on Thursday mornings at 10:00 am. (Please note that Books-a-Million opens at 10:00, so we're in as soon as they unlock the doors!)
All writers and all experience levels are welcome. And don’t worry, no one will see what you've written. This session is about getting your writing done and meeting other writers in your area.
Schedule
10:00 am – Setup, then quick introductions (and some individual goal-setting)
10:15 am – Timer starts. Quiet, focused writing for 1-1/2 hours.
11:45 am – Timer ends. Stick around to chat, keep writing, or head out.
Socializing is optional but welcome. After all, writing is solitary, and sometimes it helps to spend a little time around other people who understand the rewards and challenges. But if you don’t have time to stick around, no worries!
Running late? Just show up, get yourself settled, and write for the remainder of the hour. You are welcome to join in any post-writing socializing.
A note about the format
Shut Up & Write doesn't host critiques or readings. These events are a safe space for writers of all skill levels and genres to work on their craft and generate new writing.
For our full event schedule, visit https://shutupwrite.com.
What should I bring?
Bring whatever you need for your own writing.
If you need to muffle ambient noise, you may want to bring headphones, earbuds, or ear plugs.
How do I let you know I'm coming?
The easiest way: just RSVP to this Meetup event. And when you come, ask about joining our WhatsApp group for easier updates.
And if Meetup lets the info through: you can contact Dan at daniel@historybydesign.net...
Some important details
Books-a-Million has wifi and lots of parking. They serve coffee and snacks, and please thank our hosts by purchasing something (and yes, books definitely count!). Your host has a membership (he's a Books-a-Millionaire, apparently) and you are welcome to share that number for a discount on all of your purchases.
What if this time doesn't work?
If you would like a different weekly time, consider becoming a Shut Up & Write host, too. The more, the merrier! See the SUAW website for info about becoming an event organizer.
Come join us and get some writing done before the week is done, too!
