Appalachian Trail Hike Interest Meeting

If there is a Sidetrackers Monthly Meeting on Wednesday, we will meet right after the monthly meeting to talk about the AT.

I am planning to hike sections of the Appalachian Trail (AT) this year. This meeting is for any Sidetrackers interested in joining me for this hike. I am planning to start the hike from Springer Mountain, Georgia (Amicalola Falls) in late April 2026. I will spend about 30 days on the first portion of the trail, then return to Jacksonville for 2-4 weeks before picking up the trail again for the next section. I will probably do this throughout the summer, or until I get tired and call it quits for the season.

I don’t expect too many folks may want to join me for this long walk, but please consider joining me for a few days, or a weekend, or whatever you feel like.

There is a lot of information and planning for this hike so I don’t expect to be able to cover it all in a single meeting.

I will hold a number of follow on meetings to talk about logistics. We will discuss the trail, number of miles per day, shelters and towns along the trail. We will talk about gear required - pack, tent, sleeping bag, water purification, stoves, clothing, food, shoes…
