Tubing Ichetucknee Springs State park if you dare
Details
Its that time of the year to get your tush frozen, your body sun burned and at least get snarled up with an alligator ,moccasin or giant catfish infesting the grass beds at a few of the river's bend , just kidding on the critters but not on how cold that water is. If you're hiking Sunday in Gainesville at Kanahapa botanical gardens in Gainesville, it might be a good time to spend the night after tubing and head over to the gardens on Sunday . Ichetucknee springs state park opens at 8am and you want to be in line at 7:50 am because they close the gates after they reach a certain capacity. The tubing is a few hours if you start at Midpoint and exit the south exit were as you can go back on the river at Dampiers landing aka where the general store, restrooms and picnic pavillion is. There's a $6 fee per car and it can be purchased online or cash at the gate, tubes can be purchased for rental online if they've havent already be sold out for June which the I would rent from the rental places along hwy 27 or purchase one from Amazon or Walmart. The park will not let you have coolers or anything plastic that can end up as trash, resealable containers, wetbag, bunge cords and rope to secure your stuff and your water cannon. If you're planning on staying in Gainesville or Lake City ,you're looking at about 25 minute drive to the state park and don't forget sunscreen, Gatorade or water in an insulated container that can be secured to your tube ,shirt to keep from burning and a good attitude. I wiil post a meeting location for folks to meet to carpool or follow each other to the state park. I will post what hotel we'll stay in the area to attend Sundays hike.
