Please join us for a presentation by Art Hirsch, an expert with over 35 years experience in environmental engineering. Over 22 million pounds of plastic enter the Great Lakes every year impacting human health, the aquatic and terrestrial environments, and the economy of Michigan. It has been estimated that microplastics are consumed by the US population at a rate of 5 grams per week; the weight of a credit card. Local, state, and federal agencies lack a strategy for managing the microplastic related water quality impacts. In this presentation, Art Hirsch will discuss sources of microplastics, impacts, legislation, and mitigation actions.
This event is free and open to the public.
