Foothills Nature Preserve Mini Hike
Details
2.4 mi, 275' elevation gain
Come stretch your legs before our holiday party. Meet us at Vista Hill in Foothills Nature Preserve, to head out on the Chamise Trail to Boronda Lake. We'll stop there for a snack break before heading through oak woodlands on the Toyon and Woodrat Trails.
Along the way you might imagine this area as the Ohlones' summer home and hunting grounds. Before heading back to their permanent settlements by the bay, they would have collected these acorns, a mainstay of their diet year-round.
Dress for the weather. Bring water, snack/light lunch, and possibly poles. Don't forget your smile :)
Restrooms near park entrance, midway through our hike.
Plan to sign a liability waiver at the trailhead. Also, due to minimal cell service, don't forget your medical form. If you need a form, you can download it here.
Directions to park: From Hwy 280 take the Page Mill Rd. exit and head west/to the hills. After 2.7 miles you'll reach the park entrance. Entrance fee: $6/vehicle (carpooling encouraged). After entering the park, turn right at the intersection to head up to Vista Hill.
Whether you're an official Pathfinder member or not, we welcome anyone on the hike to join us afterwards at our holiday party, held at the nearby Interpretive Center (in the Preserve). We are providing tasty snacks and various drinks in a festive atmosphere, plus some carol singing. Hiking attire is fine.
Early bird price is $10. After December 1 or at the party, price is $15. Mail your check, made out to Sierra Singleaires, to Mike Murdock 459 Leigh Ave, San Jose, 95128, or use PayPal to hikingdues@yahoo.com. Cash or check only at the party, please.
