Pinnacles National Park High Peaks and Northern Wilderness Trail
Wednesday April 15, 2026 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
6.25 miles, 1200 feet
We will be hiking up the Juniper Canyon Trail to High Peaks trail and then descending on the Tunnel trail and hook back up to Juniper Canyon Trail to complete a 4.25 mile loop. We’ll take a break at the Chaparral Picnic Area and then head out on the North Wilderness trail for a mile or so to see the wild flowers there and then return for a total of 6.25 miles. If we are lucky we should spot some condors in the High Peaks and see lots of wild flowers! I am doing this hike mid-week as the weekends are so crowded that the parking lots fill up by 8 a.m.
Bring plenty of water, sun protection, a lunch, trail snacks and a credit card to pay the entry fee of $30.00 (or bring a national parks pass). Hiking shoes or boots are recommended. Optional: hiking poles, binoculars, and a camera. Meet at 9:00 a.m. near the Chaparral Parking lot restroom.
This hike is not for those who are afraid of heights. There is high exposure on the High Peaks trail. It will also be a slow paced hike (between 1.5 and 2.0 mph) with the slowest pace on the steep uphill and downhill sections.
Please use this location of the Chaparal parking, https://maps.app.goo.gl/NXwpfkyzU7DzL92s6, area and not the address given in the meetup map below. The pin location is correct but not the address!!
