Halloween at Santa Teresa County Park
Details
2.8 miles, 350' elevation gain
We'll hike the Norred Trail and note some features of the former ranch before venturing to the Santa Teresa Spring/Dottie's Pond. Legend says to avoid the water's edge at Dottie's Pond, or risk being pulled under by ghostly hands. I'll have a small treat for all who survive.
The Norred Trail has a gentle grade most of the way with one steep section - poles recommended. Also bring water, snack, and clothing appropriate for the weather. Plan to sign a liability waiver when you arrive.
The native Ohlone Indians lived here for thousands of years because of the spring’s never-ending flow. The Bernal-Gulnac-Joice ranch was originally part of Rancho Santa Teresa, a 9,647-acre land grant given to José Joaquín Bernal by the Mexican government in 1834. The ranch was a hub of activity, supplying fruit, dairy, and spring water to the area.
