Join us for an invigorating 4+ mile hike! This scenic route winds through diverse landscapes, including open fields, dense forests, and along the banks of Otter Lake and Otter Creek. Keep an eye out for birds and butterflies in the meadow. We’ll take a lunch break at the Otter Lake picnic area, which has restrooms. Trail Head is located off Esch Road, Near Esch Road Beach at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lake Shore. Park Pass is Required and available at the Visitor Center in Empire, MI.

Wear comfortable hiking shoes and dress according to the weather conditions. Bring water and a picnic lunch.

A liability form will need to be signed by all participants on this or any Sierra Club Outing.

Participation Details:

For all our hikes, please remember to bring comfortable hiking shoes, a water bottle, food, and the season’s weather appropriate clothing. Participation in Sierra Club activities requires registration and acceptance of a waiver, which you can complete online at the link above. Electronic copies of the required waiver are available online or by request and will be accepted automatically by signing-in to the event. Paper sign in sheet will be available at check in.
All hikes are free and open to everyone, but donations are gratefully accepted to help support ongoing stewardship and programming.
Cancellation Policy:
The hike will proceed rain, snow, or shine. However, if an Extreme Weather Warning is issued by the National Weather Service, the hike will be canceled for safety reasons.
