What we’re about

Naginata is a traditional Japanese martial art. It uses a polearm called a Naginata (the same name as the martial art itself) to spar, perform choreographed form, and more! Naginata was originally used on the battlefields in medieval Japan. It was famously used by women warriors and warrior monks. Today, people of all ages, genders, and nationalities can practice Naginata.

At the Silicon Valley Naginata Dojo, we have both a competitive class that is primarily focused on sparring and a fundamentals class that focuses on the basics and various choreographed forms. In both classes, we hone our skills in both mind and body through Naginata. This Meetup is only for the fundamentals class, but if you like the Dojo you would be welcomed to become an official member and join the competitive class when the Teachers (Sensei) approve it.

At the Fundamentals class, you will learn the basic stances, strikes, and forms of Naginata from amazing teachers. You do not need to bring any equipment. The equipment will be provided for you at the Meetup. It is recommended that you wear athletic clothes (preferably athletic shorts or sweatpants and a Tshirt) with athletic shoes.
