Presentation: CICD, Microservices, Containers, and Automation are buzzwords spreading throughout software and app development spaces; but where do these architectures make sense to apply and what are the real benefits? In this presentation, Jeremiah explores key differences between complicated vs complex systems and how this applies to modern software development. Learn how modern, massively-scaled software companies are using processes that mimic natural systems to grow, evolve, and adapt to changing demands. We hope you will come away with a new perspective of your own technology systems and take home a few tools to better design those systems to scale and adapt.

Speaker: Jeremiah Jones

Jeremiah is an entrepreneurial systems engineer and the founder of Techuity, a seed investment firm for tech startups. His technical career includes roles such as: lead technologist, principal engineer, enterprise architect, and chief technology officer. He currently divides his time as Senior Architect for PrinterLogic and CEO for Madra Learning - businesses that have created ground-breaking software within their industries. With a BS in IT, MS in Technology, and an MBA, he is passionate about education and advocates the important role engineering plays in improving local and global economies. He is also a classical music artist with over 38 million downloads of his piano recordings.

Presentation: Docker containers are a 5-year old project that has revolutionized much of how we build, ship, and run software on servers. Bret will highlight the far-reaching effects of this pivotal technology and how it's blazing a trail for the future of app development and deployment. For those that are already using Docker for development, he'll also highlight some details and decisions you'll need when taking containers into production.

Speaker: Bret Fisher

For 25 years Bret has built and operated distributed systems as a sysadmin and helped over 40,000 people learn dev and ops topics. He is a Docker Captain, the author of the wildly popular Docker Mastery series on Udemy, and also provides DevOps-style consulting and live workshops with a focus on immutable infrastructures, containers, and orchestration. Bret's an occasional shell, web, and JavaScript developer. He spends his free time in Virginia's local, thriving tech scene helping lead local Code for America and Docker Meetups. Bret basically spends his days helping people, and giving high fives. He lives at the beach, writes at bretfisher.com, prefers dogs over cats, and tweets at @bretfisher
