Camaraderie – A Celebration of 60 Years of Singapore–Germany Relations
Presented as part of the German Embassy’s Growing Together series, this concert marks six decades of friendship, diplomacy, and cultural exchange between Singapore and Germany. Featuring Singapore’s leading chamber ensemble Asia Virtuosi under the baton of Maestro Joshua Tan, the evening showcases masterworks by three of Germany’s most revered composers: Beethoven, Mendelssohn, and Richard Strauss.
The program opens with Beethoven’s Coriolan Overture, a powerful and dramatic work reflecting the inner conflict of its tragic hero. This is followed by Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in D minor, a youthful and expressive piece brought to life by renowned Singaporean violinist Chan Yong Han.
The second half presents two works by Richard Strauss. Rising tenor Shaun Lee performs the beloved art song Morgen!, Op. 27 No. 4, a sublime and intimate expression of hope and serenity. The concert concludes with the Symphony Suite from Ariadne auf Naxos, arranged by Ochoa and D. Wilson, offering a rich orchestral reimagining of Strauss’s celebrated opera.
