Modern data architecture for analytics

Abstract:

The world is getting smaller, data transfer is getting faster, but why the data analytics field evolve slower?

Today, with the wealth of knowledge, real-time systems are powered with data, every traditional businesses disrupted and evolved faster than we can imagine. While all these fascinating events happening in the world, practitioners in the most promising data analytics field are still thinking which micro batching will be suitable for their use case. Now, it is our responsibility to revise and upgrade our data analytics infrastructure to empower the analytics practitioners.In this talk, we will look into the brief history of analytics and how we can catch up the current developments for a better realtime analytics with modern data architecture.

Bio:

Engin Cukuroglu is a Solutions Engineering Manager at Confluent based in Singapore.

Previously he wore multiple hats varying from Data Scientist, Cancer & Stem Cell Researcher, and HPC bender in different companies where he gained vast experience on distributed systems and highly scalable analytics for different verticals. After receiving his BSc in Chemical and Biological Engineering, he completed his MSc and PhD in Computational Science and Engineering. His studies primarily focused on data analytics in distributed systems and developing pipelines for protein structures and genomics data. He published his findings in peer reviewed scientific journals. Most recently, he has dedicated his time to designing scalable solutions using Apache Kafka in GCP, AWS and Azure.

Real-time analytics with K2D stack

Abstract:

With Kafka, you can get millions of events in a flash. But how can you interactively analyze all those events as they happen with hundreds or thousands of concurrent users? Typical databases can’t handle the high concurrency and volume of real-time events, even the ones that promise “unlimited scalability.”

Developers from Netflix, Twitter, Confluent, Salesforce, and many others choose Druid as their real-time analytics database, often pairing it with Kafka in what we call the K2D Stack: Kafka to Druid.

In this session, Ken would like to cover what real-time analytics is and why it was significantly adapted in the digital native industry and now expanding to the traditional enterprise. He will cover Druid architecture designed to query the most 'fresh' data coming from Kafka and how Druid can empower modern applications.

Bio:

Ken is Sales Engineer at Imply for APAC region. Not limited to that, he speaks of achieving real-time analytics with Apache Druid in multiple events and meetups. Recently he is focusing on explaining the position that real-time analytics has to be designed differently than the traditional architecture - coming from the experience of working at Oracle, Vertica, and startups.
