Title: What's behind LLMs recent success?

Abstract: LLMs are everywhere nowadays, most notably the chatbots they power. But what has made LLMs so effective? To better understand this (actually not so!) new technology, we take a glimpse at fundamental research breakthroughs in language modeling from 2020 to 2023, involving both data and algorithmic contributions.

Bio: Mathieu is a 3rd-year PhD Candidate at NTU (NTU-NLP group). He is doing his thesis on abstractive summarization with deep language models.
