Details

Dear Pythonists,

this month, we will gather at the RedHat office again.

RSVPs are closed now. You should get an email with building access QR code soon.

Location:
Red Hat Asia Pacific Pte Ltd
88 Market Street Level 46 CapitaSpring, Singapore 048948

Building Access:
If you have filled out the RSVP form linked above, you should receive a QR code via email one day before the event or on the day of the event itself.

Proceed to the office lobby (the right side, where the JP Morgan Logo is). Scan your QR code to get through the gantry and then again at the first lift on the right side (the only lift that has a camera). Note that the camera is at the top of the panel, not the glowing ring at the bottom of the panel. When you hold the QR code into the camera, the available levels appear on the touchscreen and you can select Level 46. The screen will then display the letter of the lift that you are supposed to take. Proceed to Level 46.

Agenda:
7:00pm Meet & Greet
7:30pm Talk
8:00pm Networking
Pizza & soft drinks will be provided.

Talk: "A quick introduction to Astral's super fast Python tools: Ruff and uv"

In this short and beginner friendly session Martin will demonstrate how to use "uv" to get Python installed easily and then use it to install packages and manage virtual environments for your projects. uv makes Python package management a breeze, almost like yarn or npm in the JavaScript world.

Martin will also show how we can use Ruff as an ultra fast formatter, linter and import sorter, making it essentially an all-in-one package tool for Python programming and making other tools like pep8, flake8 or pylint obsolete.

Martin spent his career as a full stack web developer and served as CTO at The Artling for almost a decade. He has recently retired to become a stay home dad. In his free time he uses Python and AI in an attempt to separate signal from noise in the information overflow of today's world.
