The ROS (Robot Operating System) is back in Singapore.
After the mandatory break we are happy to announce that the ROS meetup is back and with a great kick off program! The first meetup will be happening as part of the FOSSASIA Summit on it's third day (Saturday 15th April). The talks lined up for it are:
https://eventyay.com/e/7cfe0771/schedule?track=Robotics
Speaker: Marco A. Gutierrez
Topic: ROS workshop (Introduction)
Don't what ROS is and want to get started? In this session you will learn the first steps to get introduced into the world of the Robotics Operating System. Come and learn how to use it and what you can do with it.
Speaker: Yadunund Vijay
Topic: Mapping in digital twins for autonomous navigation in the real world.
Mapping is the process of generating a representation of the environment which a mobile robot can use for autonomous navigation. It typically requires a robot to explore the physical space while running a SLAM algorithm in the background. However there are some inconveniences from this approach. It may be time consuming for very large environments. A bigger challenge is keeping the representation up-to-date with any changes in the physical layout of the space. This talk explores the idea of generating SLAM maps from digital twins of physical environments created using open-source tools such as rmf_traffic_editor, gazebo and navigation2.
Speaker: Juan Jimeno
Topic: CHAMP Quadruped Robot Control Framework
CHAMP is an Open Source development framework for building new quadrupedal robots and developing new control algorithms. The control framework is based on "Hierarchical controller for highly dynamic locomotion utilizing pattern modulation and impedance control : implementation on the MIT Cheetah robot".
Speaker: Luca Della Vedova
Topic: ECS Techniques for Robotics simulation
ECS stands for Entity Component System and is a popular software architecture used in videogame programming that brings the composition over inheritance concept to the extreme, fully decoupling objects (Entities) from the data they store (Components) and the functions that execute the logic (Systems). This talk will introduce the ECS paradigm with examples on how it can be used in robotics applications, including Gazebo (C++) for simulation and the RMF Site Editor (Rust) for traffic map generation and rendering.
Everyone attending this meetup can get free access for the day to the FOSSASIA meetup, please sign up using the code "rosmeetup" or the link:

The FOSSASIA summit is entirely run by volunteers please consider supporting by getting a paid ticket for yourself or if you want to attend the rest of the summit.
