ℹ️ This hike is accessible by train. From Rome, the train departs from Termini at 08:02, and Tiburtina at 08:13.
ℹ️ The final duration of the hiking event and the itinerary may vary, depending on weather conditions, unexpected obstacles (e.g. a fallen tree along the way), or other safety reasons. It is at the discretion of the professional hiking guide to determine alternatives or to shorten or extend the experience.There are trains back to Rome at 15:46, 17:05, 17:39, 19:47 etc. Last train back to Rome: 22:38.
This is a professional activity in accordance with European Union legislation and Italian law no. 4 dating to 2003.
Sal is a professional guide enrolled in the register of the Italian Association of Interpretive Nature Guides – AIGAE.
What should you bring?
Obligatory: Comfortable hiking shoes, 1.5 liters of water, clothing suited for an outdoor hike, backpack, bring your own hiking lunch (there will also be some opportunities to buy lunch in Narni)Recommended: Comfortable backpack, raincoat, sunscreen, hat (protection from both sun and rain), trail snacks, tickets for public transport
Optional: Hiking poles, electrolytes, sunglasses

Who is the guide?
Sal, a certified outdoor guide (member of AIGAE), leads this tour. He’s also a former Komoot route editor and a National Geographic Day Tour guide. His mission is to make information about the Italian outdoors and wilderness experiences accessible to everyone and to promote a healthier lifestyle and connection with nature. Join us on June 8th for a Family Adventure Day, hosted by Nature of Sal and courtesy of FirstMed.
Starting at 10:00 AM, families are invited to join us for a FREE urban hike to Caffarella Park in Rome.
Highlights of the hike include:
▪ Bird-watching station
▪ Water streams and springs
▪ Immersive nature experiences
▪ Hidden spots within the protected parkThe hike will be led by Sal from Nature of Sal, a hiking guide certified by the largest national hiker’s association, AIGAE. He is also certified to provide first aid. Sal organizes urban group hikes in Rome, group hikes on wilderness trails (mountains, forests, and wilderness), and private, tailor-made hikes. All of his experiences can be provided in English, German, and Italian.
And what’s a family outing without a delicious picnic? As we reach the end of our hike, around 12:30 p.m., we’ll pause to enjoy a leisurely lunch in a nice shady spot. The objective of this part of our family day is for parents to socialize with other expat parents, find play dates for their children, or simply make new friends.
When: Saturday, June 8th. We’ll meetup at 9:30 a.m. and start the hike at 10:00 a.m.
Where: Parco della Caffarella. The meeting point will be disclosed only to attendees.* This event is free, but an RSVP is required to attend.
