What we're about

Are you tired of doing things alone? Do you love doing things outdoors? HIKING, walking, biking, snow sports, all sorts of things :-) !! Are you age 50 plus? We are a four-season group focusing on outdoor events in a relaxed setting, a group that is welcoming and warm. Many wonderful friendships have grown over time among our members. Many of our activities are focusing on HIKING right now, but there are other things to have fun with!!!! Be forewarned, you must have a silly side to fully appreciate us....... :-)

Join with like-minded singles looking for fun, friendship, and possibly dating if the chemistry is right. Our main focus is adults having fun together with no dating pressure. If you are looking for a dating site this is not it.

Outdoor adventurers need to be prepared for fun and great company! I'm really looking forward to getting outdoors as much as possible, and have lots of cool outdoor things to do. We will also occasionally enjoy indoor activities (mainly during the winter), dinners, bowling, let's see what else we can do together!!

This group is open to all single people, dating people (see note below), and happy dogs of such people. Activities are for adults only. This group is not for people in committed relationships or married people. If you meet someone in the group that is different.

For those in dating relationships, one aspect of our group is to be a safe haven for people who are surrounded by a world that sometimes seems to be Couples Only, please don't bring a date.

IMPORTANT: New people: Your RSVP is very important to me. If you cannot make an event that you have signed up for, PLEASE change your RSVP. If you accumulate no-shows I will remove you from the group. Sorry, if you sign up please show up. :-)

All events are at your own risk. Please read the Liability Waiver on the Pages tab. Please bring your sense of adventure to participate. NO GRUMPY PEOPLE!!! Most events carry a $2 Meetup fee. Please send me your cell number, I'll return with mine. For friends with kayaks, check out my other group, Newburgh Area Kayakers. :-)

Schunnemunk Hike from the Trestle!!! :-)

Otterkill Road Trestle Parking

Schunnemunk is a great hike with lots of wonderful ridge walking with great views. The ridge walking is in addition to serious ups and downs which make it a strenuous hike. We will go from near the trestle on Otterkill Rd in Salisbury Mills. We will hike at a steady pace, if you are a slow or beginning hiker please choose an alternate activity for your day. It is not fair to the rest of the group to wait for long periods for you, sorry. This is a strenuous hike, roughly 8.5 miles or so. It is strenuous because of the elevation gain, the distance, ups and downs. If it is hot it is just that much more challenging, and you should bring extra water. We will aim to eat at Megaliths, such a cool place. It is not a restaurant but rather a cool rocky spot. Bring lots of water, light lunch or heavy snacks, first aid kit, hat, sunglasses and a camera. Suntan lotion and bug stuff are good ideas. Dogs welcome. *You may want to consult your doctor if you have health issues, we will be away from 'civilization' and help for several hours. There is no easy access to the remote parts of the mountain where we will be.* Hiking boots are mandatory for this hike as well as plenty of water. You should always eat a good breakfast the day of the hike and hydrate well the day before. If you are not prepared for the hike either with appropriate gear or hiking experience I will ask you to choose a different activity for your day. Parking directions!! Here is the NYNJTC link to the mountain. Go to it, then above the picture there is a tab for MAP, click on that for the Google map. Our parking lot is the top middle one, Trestle Trail, Otterkill Trail Parking. The description is on the first page: To reach the Otterkill Trail, take NY 32 to Orrs Mills Road (south from 5 Corners in Vail's Gate). After crossing the New York State Thruway, turn left on Otterkill Road and proceed and go under the railroad trestle. The trailhead parking area is 0.2 mile west of the trestle. There is a hikers parking lot. Do not park by the trestle. Give yourself time to find it. You can also get Orrs Mills Rd from the other direction. off 94 in Salisbury Mills, roughly 4 miles from Washingtonville, or from Newburgh you can take Jackson Ave across 94 and hook up with it another way. Having a map will help! http://www.nynjtc.org/park/schunemunk-mountain-3 I'll update if the weather looks iffy. We will likely head over to Loughrans in Salisbury Mills afterwards for a tasty reward. $2 Meetup fee. :-) Please send me your cell, I'll return with mine. See you on the trails!!! :-) ALL HIKES ARE AT YOUR OWN RISK. By signing up for or attending this event, you certify that you have read, understand and agree to the terms and conditions of the Orange County Outdoor Singles Liability Waiver (See "Liability Waiver" under the "Pages" tab above).

Happy August Sunday Storm King Hike!!!

Storm King - Esty and Hellie Stowell Trailhead

Storm King is a great local hike with wonderful views of the Hudson. It is not a long hike so it's good for FIT beginners with hiking boots. However, if you are a slow hiker please choose a different activity for your day. It is not for newbie hikers unless you are in good shape!! BRING YOUR CAMERA!! We will enjoy fabulous views both up and down the Hudson River. The trip is roughly 4 miles with ups and downs, uneven terrain. Hiking boots necessary. Bring snacks, water, first aid, tissues, sunglasses, and dress in layers. We will dine afterwards. Rain cancels, stay tuned. $2 Meetup fee. If I don't have your cell please send it to me, I'll return with mine. Dogs welcome. ALL HIKES ARE AT YOUR OWN RISK. By signing up for or attending this event, you certify that you have read, understand and agree to the terms and conditions of the Orange County Outdoor Singles Liability Waiver (See "Liability Waiver" under the "Pages" tab above).
