Skateboarding Class for Adults/Teens (Saturday 11AM)
Details
All levels welcome!
Beginner skills: stand on board, step on board, balance, ride, turn, kickturn, tic tac, basic maneuvering
Intermediate/advanced skills: ramps, ollies, shuvits, 180s, kickflips, heelflips
Only for adults and teens.
Teens must be accompanied by parent/guardian.
I don't have classes for kids, but I do provide one-on-one lessons for kids. Send me a message to book.
Requirements
-Bring your own board or message me to ask if you can borrow one. I have two skateboards and a longboard. Board rental is free.
-Pads are recommended but not required. (As with all risky activities, you will be asked to sign a waiver. That being said, if you follow my instructions, your risk will be minimal. I have jumped down 8-stair sets and never broken a bone skateboarding because I know how to skate safely.)
-Wear shoes that are flat on the bottom, such as Converse or Vans, not basketball shoes, hiking shoes, or running shoes.
-Cost=$20. Pay at the end of class via cash/credit/Venmo/PayPal/Zelle
-Private lessons are available for anyone before or after class. $60 for one hour. $30 for a half hour. Send me a message to book.
Note: This class has a capacity. Please show up only after you have joined the RSVP list. If you are signing up for two people, let me know so I can maintain the same class size.
What type of board should you buy?
-For traveling/commuting, choose a larger board with big, soft wheels. Longboards would work
-For learning tricks/maneuvers such as ollies, choose a standard professional board that is curved at both ends (called "popsicle" shape) and has small, hard wheels. I have boards of various sizes you can try. A width of 7.75 inches is the most common. 7.5 is considered skinny. 8.0 is considered wide. I'm not a fan of popsicle boards with large wheels. They are hard to maneuver and have a high center of gravity. However, if you are very athletic, they can be as fast as longboards yet easier to carry.
Where should you buy a board?
-I recommend boards from the skateboarding company CCS. You can order them from Amazon here: https://amzn.to/2X0a0Ap (paid affiliate link). An appropriate price range is $70-$100.
-You can also go to any specialty skateboarding store, but you might pay more money
-Avoid Target, Walmart, and sporting goods stores. Even though you will see prices between $20-$50, their boards do not have professional grade parts.
How you can reach me:
The Meetup app is very glitchy. If you send me a message and I don't reply within 24 hours, please text my business cell: 408-365-4340.
Rain Cancelations
-If there is too much rain, then on the day of class I'll send a message that class is canceled, and I'll change the title of the event to canceled.
