#97: NY Historical Society

Have you ever been to the New York Historical Society? Why not take a look at all their great stuff - and sketch it too! They currently have a beautiful room of Hudson River School paintings. We'll sketch there and also upstairs in the halls of their vast permanent collection.

The museum is located on Central Park West between 76th and 77th. We'll meet in the lobby at 11:00. The Meetup is free except for admission, which is $15. If you're lost, call me at[masked]-9816.

What makes our Meetups different from other art groups and classes? It's because we like to share our work, and talk, and enjoy the sights. Share tips and learn from people in a casual environment where all levels of artists are welcome!

  • We sketch for a half hour or so and then share our drawings, and then sketch again, etc.
  • This time, please don't bring any media that are too messy. They won't allow watercolors, for example. A sketchpad and pencil are good.
  • We hand out nametags so everyone can meet one another!
  • We take photos to share on the site later. Bring your camera!
  • The event usually lasts three hours, but is not rigid.
  • Everyone at all skill levels is welcome! Feel free to bring a friend as well!

Looking forward to sketching with you!

I'm sorry I didn't make it today. I injured my foot and felt that I should stay off of it for a few days. The coming storm has also been a concern of mine. I look forward to a future meet up experience.

A whole Foods would be just fabulous if we can work out the logistics. The new store on 57th @2nd has a second floor for dining ; ditto the cavernous Bridgemarket Food Emporium at 59th and 1st. Maybe one if those stores wd move up some food and let us paint upstairs.

This sounds wonderful. Can not make it today but if anyone wants to go there (repeat performance) let me know. I want to see the Hudson River paintings as well. I wonder if we can find a place to do a group "paint/sketch" each other as subjects...let's think...also, how about a sketch adventure at whole foods? What's more fun to paint /draw than food?

The MTA says that if it shuts down anything, the process would not begin until 7:00pm, so there shouldn't be a problem during the day today. http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/10/27/m-t-a-chief-announces-storm-plan-for-subways-buses-and-commuter-trains/?hp

Thank Jessie. I think though I should stay home and prep for the storm. The news was saying this morning SI would get the worst of it.

Really looking forward to this, but am nervous about coming into the city. I heard they may shut down the MTA to prepare for the hurricane and I don't want to be stranded in the city.

How about a meeting at my favorite park,
the Unisphere at Flushing Meadows Corona Park.
Home of the 1939 and 1964 World's Fair and the Queens Museum of Art. take #7 ride from 42nd street Manhattan straight to the entrance of
the future LIBERTY FAIR and home of the
    CORE of The Big Apple.

    Love to see you there,
