What we’re about
Sligo Tech Meetup aims to connect and inform Sligo's technology community. Meetings are usually technical or entrepreneurship-focused. The goal is to share best practices and learn from both success and failure, and also promote Sligo as a destination for technology companies, start-ups & other innovators. We aim to engage with people of all ages and also to inform them of career paths within the digital industries. If you're a technology professional or enthusiast and are connected with Sligo, or thinking of it as a destination we want you to join our meetup.
Enabling connections. Inspiring ideas.

See all- When Tech Meets Creativity - Thursday 10th July - The Building BlockThe Building Block, Sligo
Happy Summer To All You Meetup Folks!
We’re taking the happy-holiday-mood-board and using it as an excuse to try something new and colourful - so grab your Crayolas and join us in The Building Block at 18:00 on Thursday 10th July.
We're taking a considered step into the world of creativity to see how Tech is used in this space. In his recent AI presentation to the Tech Meetup, Clive Foley described himself as a “creative person” – which we were delighted to hear said aloud – many technologists don’t give themselves enough credit for the creativity they bring to their projects and on into the world at large. Something to lean into – and celebrate more!
In the interests of bringing disciplines a little closer together in our corner of the world – we’ve put together some superb local talents to give us some brief insights into how they use technology creatively in the design and execution of their (essentially creative) workflows. Join us and see how you might be inspired to embrace your own creative abilites! Cross-discipline interaction breeds wonderful outcomes – we want to see Coders mixing with Creatives – Software Architects mixing with Building Architects. We‘ve all got lots to learn from each other.Once again we’re spoiled with the quality of presenters – we actually have three on this occasion – just to bring a broader range of voices to this particular meetup:
Joe Hunt is a Sound Designer and Musician in Theatre, Film and Projection Design – including 26 years with the Blue Raincoat theatre company. Joe will set the scene for the start of the digital timeline - looking back to the transition from analog to digital and its effects on the language of sound design.
With two decades behind the lens and inside brand strategy meetings, Suzy McCanny bridges art and creative tech to help purpose-driven brands bring their vision to life. She creates striking photo, video and podcast content—and uses the latest tools to solve problems, stretch budgets, and multiply what’s possible.
Suzy will share tech tricks that super-charge creative content—from automating studio lighting scenes to generating concept art with AI – and how she uses tech to solve on-set challenges, repurpose content in ways that would have required three times the budget just a few years ago.Fionn de Buitléar is a Visual Designer working at the intersection of brand, design, and technology, shaping digital experiences that merge storytelling with functionality and impact.
Fionn will highlight the key software packages he deploys to achieve his creative vision – and perhaps sketch a glimpse of the future pathways he sees coming down the road. Thanks to Alastair McDermott for the event image!
