What we’re about
Welcome to SLO Urban Sketchers! We're a group of keen observers and documenters of our dynamic urban environment. Why take a picture on your phone and then instantly forget about it when you can really see, feel, hear, and really experience a place - making memories that will last a lifetime?
Join us weekly (typically) on Sunday afternoons where we'll pick a location in or near downtown where we can sketch, paint, chat, share tips and tricks, etc in attempt to connect deeper with this place we call home and each other.
No sketching experience needed - only an open mind, a pen and a sketchbook. If you're brand new to the concept of Urban Sketching, check out the global community website here - https://urbansketchers.org/
Hope to see you at a session soon.

Fine print: Typically, we get two sketches in per event. Plan for about 30-40 mins per session – this gives us the ability to draw the same space from different angles or pick up and walk to another nearby spot to keep things fresh and interesting. Before, between, and after sessions, we'll do a quick group introduction/share of what we created - in order to support and inspire each other while reinforcing the communal aspects of the group.
Things to consider before joining session:
- Skill level: All ages and abilities welcome. No sketching experience needed. This is a non-judgemental supportive environment that encourages you to express yourself however you want. If you have any mobility considerations please let me know so we can factor that into the route/destination.
- Supplies: Be sure to bring a sketchbook and something to draw with. I'll have some extra pens and watercolor kits if anyone wants to experiment or forgets something.
- Sitting: We typically sit wherever we can. On the ground, a bench (if available), on a wall. If you need it, bring something like a towel or blanket to sit on if concerned about dirt or comfort.
- Weather: Bring a jacket as it cools off in the evening and or hat/sunscreen as we may be in direct sunlight for up to 45 mins at a time. If the weather gets real bad we can go indoors or reschedule.
- Questions & RSVP: Reach out so I can answer them. If you can't make it, be sure to update your RSVP in advance so I have a good idea of final head count for planning purposes.
