About us
How many times have you seen hiking clubs where if you're not a super fast uber- hiker they don't want you going on any harder hikes or scrambles. They believe that if you are slower you should only stick to the easier stuff. Boring!! This is a club for those of us who still wish to do all styles of hiking from easy walks to scrambles. We just don't feel the need to make a "mad dash" for a summit or to finish a trail in record time. Hiking and being in the outdoors is meant to be an enjoyable activity for all of us. Slow and Steady is about hiking at a consistent, manageable pace -- which may vary from slow to moderate depending on the organizer -- and finishing the hike or scrambling to a summit together. If this is more your style and wish to meet like minded hikers please consider joining our club. We will be doing all kinds of summer and winter activities such as day hikes, scrambles, backpacking trips, XC skiing, snowshoe trips, downhill ski trips and any other outdoor related activity. Remember slow and steady wins the race. Lets all enjoy the great outdoors together. Just in a more relaxed pace.

Healy Pass T3 - Relaxed pace
Sunshine Village, Banff, AB, CAHealy Pass T3 - Relaxed pace
Healy Pass is a classic, 19.5 km out-and-back hike. The first 6 to 7.5 km are a steady, somewhat uneventful walk through dense pine forest alongside Healy Creek, passing the Healy Creek Campground. The trail then breaks free into vibrant, sprawling alpine meadows. The final stretch to the pass opens up completely,. The elevation rise is gradual, it climbs 700 m past dense forest to expansive alpine meadows, culminating in stunning and dramatic views of Monarch Ramparts, Mount Assiniboine, and Egypt Lake
Pace: Moderate/Relaxed, Distance: ~19km; Elevation Gain: ~800m Time: This is all day event
Difficulty: T3 strenuous
Mandatory Gear:
Hiking boots, Wind/water resistant jacket, Hiking poles , Gaiters, Water/lunch/snacks, BEAR spray (Mandatory) and Smiles!!!!!
Geology: The mountains flanking Healy Pass are primarily composed of limestone and dolomite which were deposited in shallow ancient seas roughly 500 million to 250 million years ago.
The landscape was created roughly 80 to 55 million years ago during the Laramide Orogeny, when massive tectonic plates shoved these ancient sedimentary rock layers eastward and upward over younger rock
The abrupt, steep-walled valleys and sharp peaks are the result of intense Pleistocene glaciation. Glaciers carved wide U-shaped valleys out of the older bedrock
The lush, wildflower-filled meadows of Healy Meadows are perched in a "hanging valley" formed by retreating glaciers. The exposed rock bands, such as hard dolomite ledges along the Healy Creek, form small, picturesque waterfalls and river drops.
