Mount Fortune & Fortulent Snowshoe/Hike.

This trip will entail going through deep powdery snow over undulating forested terrain, across Spray Lake, hike up a steep mount to reach the Fortune. From here, we will proceed to Fortulent Peaks. Once on it, we will be rewarded with golden sights of the Spray Lakes area and surrounding mountains.

Note: If the weather and or avalanche conditions are unfavorable for that day, we will seek a different safer location.

Date & Time: Saturday February 22 at 0630 AM

Event Duration: 9-11 hours on trail + 4 hrs driving

Difficulty Rating: Very Strenuous Day trip

Distance: 16-17 km

Elevation Gain: 1000 - 1100m

This will be an exploratory first hike for your Event Host

Location: Approximately 30 km South of Canmore along Smith-Dorrien Road near Mount Shark Recreation Area .

Required Gear: Avalanche Rescue Gear,Snowshoes, Crampons/micro spikes, Helmet, Ice Axe, hiking boots, mitts/gloves, toque, gaiters, hiking poles, sunglasses layered clothing, wind/water resistant jacket, headlamp with extra batteries, food and water.

Event Directions: From the Meet up location we will drive West along highway 1 to Canmore. We will follow Smith-Dorien Road to Mount Shark Road. Follow it to the end, which will be our start point.

Gas Money: $20.00 per person.

Your Hosts are volunteers and not trained guides. All participants are responsible for assessing the current road conditions, current weather conditions, your current physical condition, current trail conditions and current avalanche conditions for the trip and you are responsible for your safety and well-being. You are fully prepared with proper gear and you're physically fit to do this hike with the group.
