Mary Barclay Scramble (S6)

Details

Mary Barclay’s mountain is on the west side Hwy 40 opposite Mount Baldy. The trailhead is reached by wading across the Kananaskis river. Currently, the Kananaskis River flow is low until a release late in the day. If the weather is pleasant, we’ll continue on the ridge to the Catherine Barclay summit. We’ll do an out and back versus the loop on the map. This will avoid an unpleasant scree descent, and a bolder filled drainage walk. The summit honors Mary Belle Barclay (1912-1983), who founded the first of the Canadian Youth Hostels in 1933 at Bragg Creek.

Rock helmets are mandatory.
Hip waders are recommended for crossing the river but water shoes will suffice.
