Meeting to gauge interest in backpacking this trail. Sign up only if you are very keen.

Note this trail is entirely in the wilderness. No facilities available. It will be random coastal camping at its finest, bring a trowel. If you've done Nootka/North Coast before, this will be similar.

Expected travel dates are August 15 to 22, 2026 more or less. Could be subject to change depending on availability of transportation and accomodation.

Looking to share accommodation and costs. Advanced logistics to book accommodations, water taxis or seaplane, plus travel will be needed. Prepayment will be needed for this.

Am expecting us to travel to and from the trail as a group. Final mode to get there is TBC. Could drive or fly.

Preference will be given to those who have hiked/backpacked with me before. Some training trips will be mandatory especially if you haven't backpacked with me before. This is to ensure travel compatibility.

Will need a group of 4 to make this work. Up to 6 max. Commit only if you are firm as reservations are needed.

To get there to the trail, it'll be by water taxi (rough seas can make this fun/interesting) and seaplane.

Distance and Duration: Approx 50+ km, 4-5 days
Rating: Moderate, very remote expedition. No facilities available.

About the Hesquiat Peninsular Trail.
The Hesquiat Peninsula Provincial Park is a west coast promontory of Vancouver Island and divides Clayoquot and Nootka Sounds. The topography of the peninsula is comprised of a low, flat swampy forest rimmed with a stunning shoreline. What sets the Hesquiat Peninsula hike apart from most of the coastal hikes in this region is that almost the entire 50+ km hike is along the shore. There are only a handful of short sections of forest concentrated at either end. There are also very few significant cliffs or other obstacles.

Meeting link will be sent to those firm on the day of this briefing.

This trip is for lightweight backpackers. Overall starting pack weight should not exceed 30lbs total given the distance and elevation for each day.
